I'm Cheryl, it's nice to meet you...
I am so happy you're here, come sit and stay a while. This is a place created just for you. A place where you can come for advice, support, and tools to help you take control of your home school. Somewhere to help you organize your life. Where you can get a grip, reset, and thrive. I can't wait to share with you all the knowledge I have gained from my experiences and to hear yours.
Let me tell you a little bit about myself and my journey so far. I am a homeschooling mom of two teenagers. I also work outside of the home 30 hours a week. In fact, I have worked the entire time we have been homeschooling, this is our sixth year. How do I do it? It really comes down to two things; organization and flexibility.
I am so excited to share with you the details and systems I use to manage my life.
I know how difficult it is to be a mom, and how rewarding it is too. How some days you feel like it's all too much. Isn't funny though how true the old saying “the days are slow, but the years fly by” is? You blink and your baby is a toddler, blink again, your toddler is starting school, blink, now you have a teenager, blink, your child isn't a child any longer.
Recently I read something that really struck home with me. You only have 18 summers with your child before they are grown. What's that now? Maybe this is just me, but this was eye-opening, and also made me a little sad.
Sad because my kids are now teenagers. How could I have missed this simple fact? When did this precious time escape unnoticed? I cried. Countless summers where I just felt too tired or too busy with catching up to enjoy time with my kids? Was that garage revamp more important than time spent together making memories we'll never forget?
This is when I decided things were going to change around here. The change started within me. I was going to figure out a way to simplify so I would have more time for the people and experiences in my life, doesn't that sound good to you? It sure does to me.
As a home school parent, I have spent countless hours planning for our upcoming school year. The old me would spend an entire month of working 5 hours a day, 4 days a week to get it done. I am the type of person who obsesses over something until I get it finished. I can't relax, it's always on my mind. Lame, I know. I hate this about myself sometimes, other times, I know, it's what drives me to accomplish my goals.
Now days, summers are different around here. They are calmer and stress-free. When I plan ahead and utilize certain tools, I am able to stay focused on my tasks. I work smarter so I can get way more done in less time.
"Children are not a distraction from more important work. They are the most important work"
~ C.S. Lewis
So, you wanna home school, but you're still not sure if you have what it takes? If this is your dream, I say go for it. You don't have to have all the answers before you begin, you'll learn right along with your kids.
Don't stress if you aren't a math whiz or you don’t how to use a microscope. You can still do this. Learning comes in many shapes and sizes. You don't have to be an expert in every subject. Just purchase a subscription for an algebra course online if math hates you as much as you hate it. Plus, there are lots of instructional videos out there to help you become an expert in just about anything.
You can still teach your kids everything they would have learned in a public-school setting if you choose. What's really amazing though is you can also teach your kids everything public school doesn't.
Instead of only teaching traditional subjects, teach your kids life skills. Like how to clean the house, how to maintain an automobile, how to be organized. They can learn about subjects not normally offered until college to help them in their journey to discover what their future path will be. I have taught forensic science, photography, culinary basics, and computer coding to name a few.
Don't worry if you work outside the home and don't think you can home school too. You can.
I know your situation is unique to you, but I believe if you learn to utilize the tools you will find here, you will soon see that it is possible. You will make mistakes, I certainly have, many times. The difference is you have me to help guide you.
Believe me, your kids will thank you. You will not regret it. It will be the best decision you will ever make for your family. There is nothing else like it. Your journey is uniquely yours, make it whatever you wish.
I want you to not only succeed, but to truly enjoy the experiences you will create with your children along the way. You're going to love it. Let's work together to help make it as stress-free as possible for you and your family.
Take my hand, my friend, let's do this together.
